Marc Selwyn Fine Art is pleased to announce 7, an exhibition by Kevin Reinhardt centered around a single animatronic sculpture, A Swing, Alone (2). In this work, Reinhardt has fashioned a miniature, life-like portrait of the legendary jazz pianist Bill Evans moving perpetually back and forth on a playground swing. The simple swinging motion of the figure provokes the contemplation of deeper complexities in both the subject and the viewer: one’s persistent connection to youth, the space between musical notes, relaxation within controlled motion (think of heroin use by jazz musicians in the mid 1900’s) and the traversal of thought back and forth within the mind.
 
A backlit, black and off-white painting of a window with misaligned blinds and light peeking through its slats accompanies the figure. The blinds act as a familiar form to reorient the viewer's focus as their concentration oscillates between the static and kinetic objects in the room.
 
Like much of Reinhardt’s work, A Swing, Alone (2), seen as both object and event, defies and explores the properties of gravity, location, and time.
